Community Library Network

CHFESDI believes that a community library will serve as a privileged place for the democratization of knowledge. It is in fact a local service, which offers a multitude of activities free of charge that raise awareness among a large number of Haitian citizens about the cultural life of Haiti and the many historical events of the country. Whether through books, music, video, visual arts or shows, the community library will be the true home of Haitian culture.

Action Plan

​

  • Develop a network of libraries that gradually integrates technology in the community, to enable our community to be connected to the world and stay informed about what is happening in their environment and around the world.

​

  • Develop a collection of books, including digital books.

​

  • Integrate wireless Internet service ("Wi-Fi") into the entire network of community libraries.

​

  • Create a key community hub for arts, letters, and culture.

​

  • Establish a framework for collection development that promotes diversification and accessibility, in order to accurately address the evolving needs of citizens, as well as their social and cultural specifics.

​

  • Create welcoming physical spaces that offer a friendly environment conducive to community meetings, attracting people to foster exchanges, discovery, and exploration, thus meeting the needs of the different clientele who visit.

  • Ensure that each library becomes a primary information hub and access point to knowledge.

​

  • Turn libraries into platforms for information and exchange on major issues facing Haitian society and current events.

​

  • Optimize the organization of the network, promote the evolution of staff responsibilities, and develop professional expertise.

​

  • Encourage the involvement of citizens and cultural and community organizations in implementing development actions, particularly through user involvement in volunteering and the development and consolidation of partnerships.

  • Develop and offer a cultural program that promotes Haitian culture and literature.

​

  • Develop a major national and international literary event.
